Stucco allows you to create three-dimensional figures and statues. The architecture of the Baroque and Rococo has made extensive use of stucco buildings and churches, to realize lintels, cornices between walls and ceilings and to outline areas. It also allows you to create a three-dimensional extension of the paintings ( bas-reliefs ) and trompe l'oeil .

Some mixtures (mainly gypsum) are suitable for internal use, not tolerating moisture, while others are used for decorations exposed to the weather.

In modern usage the stucco decorations are often prefabricated on slabs which are then applied at the time.

The grout mixed with resins and glues used in construction also as part of joint between two architectural elements or as an element for smoothing walls in drywall or plasterboard.

The craft of stonemasonry (or stonecraft) has existed since humanity could use and make tools[citation needed] - creating buildings, structures, and sculpture using stone from the earth. These materials have been used to construct many of the long-lasting, ancient monuments, artifacts, cathedrals, and cities in a wide variety of cultures. Famous works of stonemasonry include the Taj Mahal, Cusco's Incan Wall, Easter Island's statues, the Egyptian Pyramids, Angkor Wat, Borobudur, Tihuanaco, Tenochtitlan, Persepolis, the Parthenon, Stonehenge, and Chartres Cathedral.
